x264 is a free software library for encoding H.264/MPEG-4 AVC video streams. The code is developed by Laurent Aimar, Loren Merritt, Eric Petit (OS X), Min Chen (vfw/asm), Justin Clay (vfw), Måns Rullgård, Radek Czyz, Christian Heine (asm), Alex Izvorski, and Alex Wright. It is released under the terms of the GNU General Public License.

Several graphical user interfaces have been made for the command line version, including Staxrip, MeGUI, AutoAC and a x264CLI GUI (requires .NET (1.1) framework).
