Restaurant (magazine) Top 50

Restaurant magazine produces an annual list of 50 restaurants it claims to be "best in the world" based on a poll of international chefs and critics. In 2006 El Bulli in Catalonia (Spain) pushed the 2005 winner The Fat Duck down to second place. The two top restaurants are forerunners of molecular gastronomy. Most of the restaurants serve classical French cuisine, or at least a close interpretation of it.

The list is considered biased towards Europe, and against Asia: the 2008 list contained no Asian restaurants – notably no Japanese restaurants, but 6 British ones, despite Tokyo having 8 restaurants with 3 Michelin stars, compared to 2 such restaurants in Britain.[1] The 2009 list contains 2 restaurants in Asia, against 35 restaurants in Europe.[2]
